The Earthquake Journals

My photo-journal tells the story of what happened to me and my world, here in Italy, when the huge earthquakes struck in the summer of 2016 and continued for over a year.

… just click the logo and read the dozen or so little chapters - each about 5 mins long and packed with photographs - that chronicle what the earthquakes did to my region and the effects on those of us who lived through them.

Quick summary of the earthquake diaries

A huge earthquake struck my region, here in Italy. It came just before dawn on August 24th, 2016 and changed all our lives forever. It would be the first of many, many more to come over the following year. Hundreds of people died and tens of thousands were made homeless (including me). Even now, we are still in great difficulty.

My pictures

During this period I traveled around the region taking hundreds of photographs documenting this immense natural disaster. I was traumatized and needed to understand what had happened to us and the only way I knew how to do this was with my camera.

Our world here has never looked the same since. It wasn't just the landscape and the buildings that were altered permanently - it was all of us who lived through it, too. I don’t suppose any of us will ever be quite the same again.
